Announcements 8/31

Dear Community,

-The vort for Leah Braverman and Yossie Censor will be tomorrow night (Thursday) at the Braverman home, 1441 Livonia Avenue, from 7:30-10:30pm.

-   To: The Entire Community, My mother, Mrs. Lola Heller, with her dear husband, Bert Heller, moved to Los Angeles to be near us, and to start a new life connected to our Jewish Community. Many fine people assisted in their transition. She was extremely appreciative for the smallest bit of connection. It's hard for me to imagine life without my mother, here in the physical world.  Rabbi Kelemer said it all in a few words. "Emulation, emulation, emulation."  Our family is very grateful for any memories you wish to share of Mom Lola. My email address is: libbyinamerica@dsl.com.

Thank you, Libby Klein

-With the High Holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time to renew (or start!) your Aish LA membership. Once you’ve sent your paperwork, you will receive a confirmation email or phone call confirming your membership and High Holiday seats, so don’t delay! Thank you to everyone who already renewed your Aish LA membership for 2011-2012!

Chessed Opportunity!

Dear Aish Community Members,

As we do every year at this time, we are now collecting funds to help pay for the apartment of a woman in the Pico community who is unable to do so herself. Without our support and the support of the other shuls who also contribute to this cause, this person would surely be living on the street.

Those of you who would like a part in this mitzvah should make a check out to THE TZEDAKAH FUND and send it to Holly Magady at 1515 Glenville Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90035.

DO NOT MAKE THE CHECK OUT TO "AISH HATORAH" OR TO THE "AISH TZEDAKAH FUND" AND DO NOT SEND THE CHECK TO THE AISH OFFICE OR TO NORM POMERANZ IF YOU WANT TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHECK GOES TO THIS PERSON.

Tizku L’Mitzvos!

If you give a mouth a cookie…

A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a large airport. As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to pass the time. She also bought a packet of cookies. She sat down in an armchair in the VIP room to rest and read in peace. Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading. When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated, but said nothing. She just thought: “What a nerve! If I was in the mood, I’d punch him for daring.” For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her, but she didn’t want to cause a scene. When only one cookie remained, she thought, “Ahh, what will this man do now?” The man took the last cookie, divided it in half, and gave her half of it!
That was too much. In a huff, she collected her belongings and stormed off to a different place to read. When she sat down, she looked into her purse to take out her eyeglasses. To her surprise, the packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened!
She felt so ashamed. She had forgotten that her cookies were kept inside her purse. The man had divided his own cookies with her without feeling angry or bitter, while she had been very angry thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now there was no chance to explain herself, nor to apologize.
There are four things that we cannot recover: the stone, after the throw… the word, after it’s said… the occasion, after the loss… and the time, after it’s gone!

Good Shabbos,
Rabbi Cohen
