Matanos L'evyonim Reminder

Matonos l'Evyonim REMINDER:

Please make checks out to Aish HaTorah and mark them “Purim”. You can mail them into the office (1417 s. Doheny Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90035) or drop them in our mailbox.

You can also bring checks to Megilah reading on Motzei Shabbos and Sunday morning and give them to Rabbi Cohen.

A Note from R’ Cohen: Rambam Hilchos Megilla Chapter 2 Halacha 17

It is preferred to give more money to the poor on Purim than to have a huge meal and send gifts to one’s friends, because there is no greater and more beautiful joy than to gladden the heart of the poor and the orphans and widows….

The recession in America has hit hard even in our own community and has impacted bnei Torah in Eretz Yisroel.  I am therefore encouraging everyone to fulfill the mitzva of mishloach manos (Purim baskets) in the basic way – two items of food to one friend -- and to give the money that they might have spent on elaborate mishloach manos to the poor and needy in our community and in Eretz Yisroel.  Aish will distribute money on Purim in Yerushalayim through Rebbetzin Weinberg, and R’ Landau and R’ Cohen will distribute locally through Tomchei Shabbos and Torah v'Chesed.

Children should continue to send their “Purim goodie bags” to each other for chinuch purposes.

Thank you!
