R’ Isser Zalman Meltzer, the Rosh HaYeshiva of Etz Chaim in Yerushalayim a generation ago, was known to be a person of scrupulous honesty. One day as he walked in the street, deeply engrossed in thought, he by accident opened a gate and entered into a courtyard in Mea Shearim. As he walked in, a chicken took the opportunity to escape through the open gate into the street. R’ Issar Zalman immediately realized what had happened.
