“Shemos
And HaShem said to Aharon: “Go to the desert and meet Moshe”
Rav Aharon Kotlar z”l and Rav Moshe Feinstein z”l learned together in Slutz. After Rav Moshe became the Rabbi in Lubin, he and his family were persecuted for years by the Communists. Eventually he and his family emigrated to the United States. Rav Aharon stayed in Europe until the outbreak of World War 2. Then through the mercy of Hashem he escaped the Holocaust and made it across Russia to Japan
In Japan he was faced with two choices: either to go to Eretz Yisroel and join his father-in-law Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer or to go to America and try to build Torah from the remnant of European Jewry. America, at the time, was a spiritual wasteland for Judaism.
Rav Aharon decided that he would follow the “goral haGra” – a type of lottery – to determine what he should do. The lottery fell on the pasuk:
“Shemos 4:27 “Vayomer Hashem el Aharon lech likras Moshe hamidboro”
And Hashem said to Aharon: “Go to the desert and meet Moshe”
He moved to
Shabbat Shalom, R’ Moshe Cohen
