Yisro – A Generous Thief

Shemos 20:13 “Low Tignov” - “Do Not Steal”

A story is told of the Tsadik Reb Zushya from Anipole that he was once carrying ten rubles on Erev Shabbos, and had to find a place to leave them over Shabbos. He chose a Chumash, opened it to Parshas Yisro and placed the money next to the Pasuk:

“Low Tignov” - “Do not steal!”

Someone in the shul found it, took the ten rubles and placed five rubles in Parshas Kedoshim next to the Pasuk:

“Veahavta L’reyechaw Kamocha!” – “Love your fellow man as yourself!”

When Reb Zushya returned some time later to take his money, he discovered what had happened and exclaimed:

“How holy are your people HaShem and how lowly is Zushya! When Zushya got ten rubles he kept them all for himself, but another Jew who gets ten rubles gives half to Zushya!

                                                                                    Shabbat Shalom, R’ Moshe Cohen

JEWISH LAW TIP

Rav Moshe Feinstein z”l held that if nine men had davened Shmone Esrei and then a tenth man arrived after they had finished, it is still permissible to do a Chazoras Hashatz.
