Seder – A Disorderly Seder

R Shmuel Koriver, a student of the Chozeh of Lublin, lived in abject poverty. Pesach was rapidly approaching, and he had no money for wine, food, or matzos. The Chozeh heard of his plight and dispatched one of his wealthy chasidim to quietly provide Reb Shmuel with all his needs. On Erev Pesach, a wagon laden with food and wine and matzos arrived at Reb Shmuel's door. He was overjoyed.  Reb Shmuel sat down and conducted his Seder with a joy and a feeling that was unparalleled in all his holy life.  He was overjoyed that HaShem had provided for him without having to ask for charity. On the second night of the Seder, Reb Shmuel was so tired from the previous night that he decided to rest a little before beginning the second Seder. He lay down on his bed for just a couple of minutes.  Several hours later, he awoke with a start. He glanced at the clock and was horrified to see that it was nearly midnight. In just a short while it would be time to eat the afikomen. Reb Shmuel rushed to make kiddush, read the haggadah, say Hallel, drink the four cups, eat the matzos, the bitter herbs, the charoses, and the festive meal, and finally just seconds before midnight, he ate the afikomen. After Pesach, Reb Shmuel traveled to visit his teacher, the Chozeh, to tell him how disappointed he was with his second Seder.

“Well the first night was disappointing,” commented the Chozeh, “but you made up for it with the second Seder!!”

If you think your Seder was not a success, don’t despair!

Have a kosher and joyous Pesach.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Moshe Cohen

COMMUNITY OFFICE HOURS

Tamar’s office hours are 4-6 pm Mon-Thurs.  You can reach her at (310) 278-8672 x 305 or via email, tamar@aishla.com, during these hours.

TALLESIM

If you notice any tallesim which are torn or damaged in any way, please leave them on top of the bookcase where the tallesim are kept so that we can repair them.

SECURITY ALERT

In an effort to “harden the target,” we have installed a combination lock on the shul’s front door and thousands of dollars of surveillance equipment, cameras, and security guards.  Every member of shul should know the combination and the door should be kept closed at all times.

ON GUARD

We all feel very happy and safe on Shabbos thanks to Matcal, our Israeli security patrol, which also advises us on security matters.  However, we are down to our last $200 for Security, which won’t last us more than a few weeks.  We ask that you please contribute toward this fund so that we can continue this very valuable service uninterrupted through Pesach and the summer months.  Contact Tamar or drop off a check at the Aish office marked “Shabbos Security.”

EARLY SHABBOS MINYAN

The early Shabbos Shacharis minyan continues this Shabbos at 8:00 am in the Sem Room.  Participants will be learning b’chevrusah from 10-11 am.  For details, contact R Quinn.

MAOS CHITTIM -- FEED THE POOR OF JERUSALEM FOR PESACH

Maos chittim donations are being collected for Keren Yehoshua v’Yisrael run by Rabbi Shlomo Kaplan. He only supports families that are in dire straits. 100% of the monies raised go directly to screened families in Jerusalem in the form of food coupons.  There is no overhead.  Here is an idea of how far your donation goes: $180 covers all Passover food needs for a small family, $360 covers a medium family, and $540 covers a large family.  There are self-addressed envelopes in the back of the shul on the bookcase. You can also learn more and pay at their website: kerenyehoshuavyisroel.com.
