Vayishlach

When the going gets tough…. the tough turn to HaShem –

Breishis 32:12 “…please save me from Esov my brother.

Rashi: Yakov resorted to ….prayer

It once happened that the sister of the great Kotzke Rebbe (Rav Morgenstern) needed a cure from a serious ailment. She came to visit her brother to ask him to beg for mercy on her behalf in his prayers. However, the Rebbe got wind of the fact that she was coming to see him and instructed his attendant that on no account was he to permit her to enter his quarters, regardless of her protests and tears. When she found that her entry was barred she began to remonstrate with the unfortunate man, but it was all to no avail. He was acting under strict orders.

Upon seeing that she was getting nowhere she went outside, raised her hands heavenward and with a plaintive and desperate cry she pleaded:

“Ribon shel Olom! Now I only have You upon whom to rely! Please help me!!”

When the Kotzker Rebbe heard these words, he turned to his assistant and told him to allow her to come in to the house now.

“That is what I wanted to happen!” he exclaimed and smiled at his forlorn sister.

“You needed to know that everything is up to HaShem. Now, I can add my feeble efforts to your prayer, and with the help of HaShem we shall see the desired results!”

Good Shabbos,

Rabbi Cohen

20 LA Moms just participated in the Aish LA/JWRP under the direction of Lori Palatnik, Chana Heller and Sharon Shenker. It was 10 days of intense learning and inspiration. We are looking for community people who would like to get to know these families and help us with follow up. Please contact Chana at chana@aishla.com.

ATTENTION PARENTS:

We have a great childcare program available for all ages, thanks to our fabulous counselors! Unless your children are standing in shul, they must be in the childcare program.  It is both disruptive and dangerous when children are running around unsupervised.
